Sidik Martowidjojo (Ma Yong Qiang):

Sidik Martowidjojo, also known as Ma Yong Qiang, is an internationally acclaimed artist renowned for his mastery of Chinese painting and calligraphy. Born in Malang, Indonesia, in 1937, Sidik’s artistic journey began in childhood with lessons in Chinese calligraphy and Qi Gong, which deeply influenced his creative philosophy.

With a rich multicultural heritage—descended from Chinese immigrants and Javanese royalty—Sidik’s work bridges Eastern traditions and contemporary artistry. His career as a full-time painter flourished in Yogyakarta, where he immersed himself in the local art scene.

Sidik’s global recognition includes prestigious awards such as the Chinese Painting Excellence Award at the World Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Competitions in Beijing (2001) and Nanjing (2002). His talent earned him the title of Research Fellow at the Chinese Academy of Art, and he was invited to high-profile forums like the Asian Culture and Art Circle Forum in Chengdu, where he shared insights alongside Nobel laureate Mo Yan.

In 2014, Sidik made history at the Carrousel du Louvre, Paris, winning the Médaille d’Or (Gold Medal) for his masterpiece "Enlightenment Orientalism", selected as the best work by the jury. He repeated this success in 2018, receiving the Prix Spécial du Jury at the Salon des Beaux Arts in Paris, cementing his status as a global artistic force.
